Marathoncompetitie in Noord-Amerika succesvol verlopen

Conclusion to the 2004-2005 Marathon Series

The marathon season ended last February with the Lac-Beauport event. Marathon Skating International (MSI), its collaborators, and participating skaters can be proud of this first successful season. MSI would particularly like to thank the race organizers who have greatly contributed to the success of the series, but we would not have had the success that the series has had, without the binding thread that was our website. And concerning the Marathon Skating International website, I think everyone should know that it was put together and updated regularly throughout the season by Rod Willmot, our webmaster, and all this without any remuneration whatsoever, so a big thank you to Rod. Upon reviewing the statistics of the race series, brilliantly prepared by Suzanne Dionne and her crew, we realize that 201 skaters participated in one or more of the races over the winter including 150 men and 51 women. We are quite sure to recruit a lot more next season.

We must not forget the enormous contribution the Chip Timing system has had on the overall efficiency of organizing the races, and how it has greatly simplified the work of the volunteers and organizers, all this thanks to the generosity of the investors. Of course all this technology would be of no avail were it not for the work of a knowledgeable and trustworthy technician in the person of Rod Willmot.

Congratulations to Barry Publow and Suzanne Dionne for winning the MSI 11 Race Series. Congratulations also to all those skaters who in their respective age groups. The administrators will be in touch with everyone about the awards ceremony. Your administrators are already at work on the upcoming 2005-2006 season program, which will probably begin with a marathon training camp in Ste-Foy presented by Barry Publow. We wish you a nice summer, training and getting ready for an even better 2005-2006 MSI race series. Till then, take care and looking forward to seeing all of you along with many new faces next season.

Gaétan Rochette and Bernard Doth,
